Why your restaurant / business needs mobile app ordering
According to a February 4th article by QSR Magazine:
“Restaurant digital orders have grown at an average annual rate of 23 percent since 2013 and will triple in volume by the end of 2020, and the majority of digital orders, 6 out of 10, are by mobile apps, reports The NPD Group. A restaurant’s app or website represents 70 percent of digital orders and the remaining orders are through third-party apps or other types of apps or websites, according to the findings of NPD’s recently released Delivering Digital Convenience report.”
For companies utilizing mobile app technology for online ordering purposes, this is amazing news! For those who are not yet using the tech to streamline their ordering it might be just the thing to light the fire for them to grow their digital footprint.
Mobile apps make it easy
Ease of access is the biggest reason customers are turning to ordering through mobile apps rather than navigating websites or – you guessed it – calling in to a business to place an order. Websites aren’t always mobile friendly and if they are they’re often using the precious data we have in our cell plans.
By using an app for product ordering customers can more easily use their reward programs without the need to login again as they would likely do on a website. Payment is also streamlined via a mobile app in ways that aren’t always as user friendly online.
Sixty percent of digital orders happening on mobile apps is a huge statistic for businesses. Not only does it mean investing in a mobile app is absolutely the right thing to do, it also means that customers are responding exactly as we hoped they would. Consumers are hungry (in the case of those restaurants literally) for adaptation.
Mobile apps present a simple way of doing business while the customer is on the go. There is no need to switch to “full” mode as one might have to do with websites. They can be as bare bones or as complex as a business wants – so long as the customers respond positively and enjoy the app. The customers are, after all, who we do these things for.
So, it’s up to us as businesses to respond to that need for adaptation or not. Mobile apps are not a Pied Piper leading businesses astray, they are a means of expanding and adapting to the ever growing digital age.
I founded Unleashed Mobile Apps with the goal to help small business owners bring their visions to life.
